Hello everyone,
I am pregnant at the moment with my first baby and it is ridiculous but i have been advised to enrol in a school ASAP because all of the good schools are booked up. Now, I grew up in Australia so I’m not really all that familiar with the American school system. I have friends with kids who have advised me of what schools they think are best but i do want an unbiased opinion so I thought I would ask here. I want my baby to go to a private school and here are a few of my requirements:
Must teach a second language, I can speak French so this would be helpful so that i can help with progression with learning the language.
I don’t want anything that rules with an iron fist so to speak, at risk of sounding flowery i want creativity to be embraced with a big emphasis on the arts.
I understand that American schools teach alot of American history but are there any that teach from a whole range of perspectives so that my child becomes what could be called a ‘child of the world’ and have an understanding of all different cultures not just that of the US (this is what happens in Australian schools)
It needs to be prestigeous
I’m having a girl but I would love for her to go to a school that teaches both boys and girls because i think only girl schools have a bit too much drama and not enough balance and i may have a boy in the future so I would love for them to go to the same school. This isn’t a huge deciding factor.
Without giving away my address or anything I live on the UES a on E79th towards the Park end so I would love somewhere that i could walk with her to school in summer and that type of thing but i would prefer a great school over having this option.
I may be asking for a miracle with this but i don’t want anything too snooty, I don’t want my daughter to get too wrapped up into thinking that wealth is everything and I deal with enough where i live, but that being said I know it is hard to find in the area I am looking.
Price doesn’t matter. I know what schools are about (generally) but I’m looking for ideas.
Have you seen the students about on excursions? and what is their behaviour.
Thanks for any help everyone
I don’t know much about private schools but there’s a private high school called Dalton. There’s a public high school called Hunter College High school. Both schools are on the Upper East Side. Those are two of the best schools in the city. You need to take a test to get into Hunter. Stuyvesant and Bronx Science are two elite public high schools. I suggest your child goes to an average elementary (primary) school. In 6th grade take the test to get into Hunter. The test for Stuyvesant and Bronx Science is in the 8th grade.
