Where In Australia is the Best Place to Study Abroad?

I’m pretty set on going to Australia during the American Spring of 2009. Right now, I have my sights set on the Gold Coast, probably Griffith University. Preferrably, I’d like to gain the opinion of those who have either studied in Australia or who have been there. I go to school in Burlington, VT (UVM) and I’m looking for something the opposite. I guess that would be on or near a beach and in somewhat of a city-like atmosphere. I’m a Community Entrepreneurship major and Business minor. Any help is appreciated!

Sorry it takes awhile to spot your question.

I used to be an international student in Melbourne. Although it is on the other end of Australia from Gold Coast, I got some knowledge abt the place, as I had visited them several times for holiday.

Gold Coast is the 2nd biggest city in the State of Queensland (Brisbane is the capital). It is pretty much a tourist town, with entertainment parks and warm climate during Australian winter. Some info abt Gold Coast from Wiki are listed below. Unfortunately it is hard to compare as I have no idea where Burlington, VT is, pardon my ignorance.

Of course if you want big city experience with beaches, then Sydney’s the way to go. It is loud, crowded and not as warm as Brisbane or Gold Coast.

Can an international student in australia eligible to apply for a student visa for the US ?

I am an international student studying in Sydney, Australia. I want to study engineering in the US as the degree of the US universities are more valuable than that of Australia. So, can anybody suggest me how to apply for a student visa for the US from Australia. For note, I am a Nepali citizen.

You should contact the US Embassy in Sydney, but I’m sure that they will tell you that you will need to go back to your home country to apply at the US Embassy in Nepal. I’m sorry about that! But good luck with your studies.

That;s a tough one as both cities are great and have their own merits. Melbourne is rather cosmopolitan and between it and its surrounding suburbs hardly sleeps. This is not conducive to study, but can be necessary. Melbourne’s temperatures are varied and some say that Melbourne uses all four seasons every day – every week may be more truthful. It can get pretty low in winter with top temperatures down to 10 and maybe 2 overnight. In summer 36 is not unusual. But Melbourne is fun and has a lot to see and do on your weekends or study breaks. Melbourne also has the finest drinking water in probably the world, although it is currently in stage 2 water restrictions. Melbourne has a real lively city feel.

Brisbane is also lovely with a more moderate temperature of 15 to 30 maximum termperatures. Brisbane has picked up a lot lately but is still pretty sleepy. Brisbane is gateway to the theme parks of MovieWorld, Dreamworld, Seaworld & Wet N Wild. Brisbane has a real holiday feel.

But of course the real decision you should make is the school. Brisbane or Melbourne, you should decide not on the city, but on the merits of the school and what impact a degree from any particular university can have on your career. Eg: in Melbourne alone a degree from Melbourne University packs a greater whallop than one from Monash Uni. And La Trobe Uni comes in third I guess. I know they teach different subjects but you have to go to the school that offers the most. It would be sad to lose a coveted job to the fact that the other contender went to a better school.
