Also, what time of the year should I study in Australia? I can either go from Febuary-June 2011 or July-November 2010..just need help deciding!

Weather is something to consider… February is Australia’s last month of summer, so it might drop into cooler temperatures for the later part of your stay if you went from Feb-June….but then again you WILL miss all the rain in September in October if you go during second semester, which might be more..pleasant. If you go in February, you can pack a lot of your outdoor experiences into the first few months until the weather gets cooler and then head over to ski slops, etc!
Both Sydney and Melbourne are very diverse and have access to awesome activities/nightlife, but Sydney is definitely more of a tourist spot and Melbourne has that big city feel like NYC, so it all really depends on what kind of person you are!

Go somewhere other than those places. They are not the only major cities of Australia, and a smaller city would probably be better for an exchange (besides you will probably be placed in a suburb away from the city a bit.)
Of the two though, Melbourne is nicer.
Feb-June is usually a bit hotter, so it depends on how mild (or otherwise) you like the weather. Our school year starts in February (or late January) so it would be easiest to start in February.
